Is the Bible the Source of Objective Truth?

Is the Bible the authoritative and inerrant word (or message) of God that He revealed to Abraham, Moses, and the 48 prophets and 7 prophetesses mentioned in the Hebrew Bible? Did the Age of Prophecy really exist? Were there 1.2 million or 200 prophets during this period as quoted in the Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Megilla 14a?

How should the Bible be interpreted – as the literal word of God whose meaning remains constant throughout human history or as a divine message whose meaning changes depending on time and culture? Is Orthodox Judaism correct for developing 4 layers of interpretation of the Hebrew Bible – the PaRDeS? Pa-R-De-S is an acronym for Peshat (which means simple interpretation – which is inaccurately conceived as literal interpretation), Remez (or alluded meaning which can be obtained through referential interpretation of the text e.g through gematria [isopsephy] that substitutes letters with numbers), Derash (or homiletical interpretation which allows one to derive implicit [i.e non-explicit] meaning of the text), and Sod (which simply means secret or esoteric meaning). Does Orthodox or Catholic Christianity have an equivalent of PaRDeS?

What if the Bible is a profoundly human book that expresses fundamental metaphysical knowledge through myths, parables, legends, and allegories?

Does the Bible describe the only reality that exists (which would make it a source of objective truth)? What if the Bible describes a fictional reality? What if the Bible describes reality as interpreted by humans who lived during the time when the Biblical texts were being written?

Language and Mathematics

Reality is comprehended using language. So, let us consider language.

Is Hebrew the Holy Language (or Lashon ha-Kodesh [Holy Tongue] as the Talmud asserts) that God used to create being and the world? If Hebrew is the Holy Language, then reality can best be understood using Hebrew terms. If Hebrew is not the Holy Language, then is it possible that the reality described in the Hebrew Bible is fundamentally flawed?

What if there is no holy language? What tool can people use to describe and comprehend reality?

Are numbers and mathematics well suited to describe and comprehend reality as the Pythagoreans and Neopythaogeans philosophers stated? Introduction to Numbers, Energy, and Metaphysics approaches reality as a creation made up of only 3 distinct “constituents” – energy, numbers, and God. This approach privileges numbers over words. This raises a question, were numbers invented or discovered?

Could human beings have used numbers without first describing these numbers using words (that are derived from the grammar of language? Who is Anochi? starts by asking a pertinent question: “What is the greatest invention that humans have ever made? Is it fire, wheel, or language?”. The post explains that without language, a human being remains an animal lacking complex mental faculties and the conscious mind to discover or explore aspects of reality. The post uses the example of a dumb person and relates it to its two distinct meanings: a dumb person is a person who cannot speak and a dumb person is a person who lacks intellectual acuity.

When describing the intellect of Black people, the Aristotelian Jewish philosopher and Talmudic exegete, Maimonides, alluded that Black people have an intellect equivalent to that of a person born dumb and lacks any conscious ability to develop intellect. In Chapter 51 of Book III of The Guide for the Perplexed, Rabbi Moses ben Maimon (Maimonides) states: “their (Kushim, which means Negro or Black) nature is like the nature of dumb animals, and according to my opinion they are not on the level of human beings”. This remark may have been influenced by Maimonides’ interaction with Blacks at the dawn of the period known as the Dark Ages when philosophy, logic, rationality, sciences, and mathematics were beginning to be suppressed in favor of dogmatic beliefs in revealed words of God.
